Cornwall Tours by Land Rover

Cornwall Tours by Land Rover.

There’s big news for Cornish Heritage Safaris. We have a very shiny new Land Rover Defender, to tour around Cornwall in. His name is Excalibur and he replaces poor Sir Galahad who served us well, but had a rusty bottom from his previous life working on the beach!

Excalibur is of course bright silver; and can take six passengers with room for storage of picnic equipment or luggage on the roof-rack. Then it really feels like a safari.

Of course, much of our time on our days out is spent walking and enjoying the sites. But to get between places it’s good to have a reliable vehicle that can cope with some of the more difficult to get to places. The track down to St Nectan’s Glen is made much easier using the Defender (Tintagel and King Arthur Tour). It’s a beautiful walk to the Glen through the valley, but for those who need a ride, or those who have a packed itinerary, we can drive down and back in safety.

We don’t have any motorways in Cornwall and the main road from East to West is the A30 (usually dual carriageway, but with notable bottle necks). This road is quite often busy. It’s great to have a car that can cruise happily down ‘the dual’ to do The Far West Tour, and is equally at home at Carn Euny on the track towards St Just, or the cliff top at Botallack. How did Mr Poldark manage up there without one?

The views from the Defender are pretty good because the vehicle is higher than a minibus or car. Fold-down steps are useful for getting in and out, although it’s true that you can grab anything to help yourself into the car. Nothing falls off!

This is the last year that Land Rover are making the Defender and so my 2015 purchase is even more special. Photos to follow once he’s got his livery. Maybe some new T-shirts to match too.
